Getting it right!
Research, research and yet more research! Characterisation is based upon what we know, so there will always be an example of a set character; it is up to the make-up artist to find it for reference. Others seeing the results of our efforts may not know exactly what they are looking at, but if it's accurate and done well, they should not even notice the make-up!
